Year 1 To The Rescue
This week Year 1 have begun a new writing project using an approach to writing called 'Talk 4 Writing'. We are learning how to write fantastic stories. As our topic this term is superheroes, we are using the book 'Supertato' to help inspire our own creative ideas.
However, there were some strange goings-on in class earlier this week when we discovered a crime scene, with characters from the story needing our help. The veggies had all been tied up, stuck to the table or had their faces drawn on! The children all knew who the culprit must be... the evil pea from the Supertato story! Then we discovered that the evil pea had left us a video message. Click this link to watch the video https://vimeo.com/215029715. He told us that he had stolen all of the words with the er and est suffix and without these words, we would never write fantastic stories. Like true superheroes, Year 1 saved the day by finding all the missing words and sorting them into either the er or est group.
Also this week, we created a storymap and actions to help us to recall the beginning of the story. The children came up with some great ideas for drawings and actions and now have a really good understanding of how to start a great story. Next week we will look at the middle and end of the story, Hopefully we've seen the last of the evil pea!
