The phonics scheme that we follow is called Sounds-Write. This is a Department for Education approved scheme.
The Sounds-Write website has lots of useful information for parents, especially those new to phonics. Like many parents, our staff didn't grow up with phonics and it can feel like a bit of a minefield at first! We do also use the songs from Jolly Phonics, to give children a visual and kinaesthetic prompt when they are first learning the sounds, but our main approach is through Sounds-Write.
Please follow the links below to find some useful resources. Sounds-Write offer free tutorials and a podcast to support parents, carers, and professionals in developing their understanding of what phonics is and why we teach it in the early years at school.
At the back of the children's reading records, you will also find all of the phonemes in the order they are introduced, to help reinforce these with the children.
We use "pure" sounds, in other words, we would say 'p' by pressing the lips together, a little bit like blowing out a candle, rather than 'puh'. More information about this, including a demonstration video, will shortly be on the school website, with a further news article to alert parents.
We will be offering a workshop for parents after half-term. The date is to be arranged and further information will follow early in November.

Many thanks to all our parents for continuing to support the school in working together to achieve the best outcomes for every child.
